Youth Workshop: Using iPads in Library Programs Print

Credits: 0
Core Competency: 3C:Youth Services

Presenter: Melendra Sutliff Sanders
Description:

Location:  Manhattan Public Library Auditorium

In a time of rapidly changing technologies, the role of the librarian has expanded to include the realm of digital media. Supporting children’s literacy now means serving as a media mentor, guiding children and their caregivers toward digital media experiences that translate into positive and productive lifelong learning skills, regardless of format.

In this workshop, we’ll explore quality apps for children and teens, discuss best practices to engage parents in their children’s media use, tips and tricks when using iPads with groups, and resources libraries can use and recommend for finding good, educational apps.

The first six libraries* to register will receive a free iPad! NCKLS will provide non-matching grants toward the purchase of an iPad to other libraries* who attend the workshop. Any library staff or volunteers who present programs for children or teens at your library are welcome to attend.

If your library owns an iPad, or if you use your personal iPad for library programs, please bring it along.

* Libraries in taxing counties that do not already own an iPad.
